Homage to My Hips

[Passion of the Poets]

these hips are big hips.
they need space to
move around in.
they don't fit into little
petty places. these hips
are free hips.
they don't like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.
i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top

very good-tho in reply to Aberjhani's comment I wonder if we should as males try to write like some of the female poets sometimes-if anything to stretch our minds and see how creative our Muses can be

This is a wonderful earthy poem. Women could all be so much happier by celebrating what is buxom and bountiful about their bodies, instead of allowing the influence of the skinny-loving media to take over. We are not clothes hangers, we are sisters, mothers, daughters and lovers. We come in all shapes and sizes. Let's hear it for Lucille Clifton and her magic hips! :)
