More About Me and My World
In my world, art and spirituality are one and the same. It is my path and the light by which I look for way to travel it well.

On April 16, 2008, the Telfair Museum Jepson Center for the Arts in Savannah, Georgia, opened an exhibition of my art titled ELEMENTAL, that ran until September 14, 2008. I've been blessed enough to have shows of my work before but there's something special about having one on this particular scale in one's hometown.

In conjunction with the show, my first book, ELEMENTAL, The Power of Illuminated Love, was also published in May 2008. The book features more than 60 reproductions of my art, some of which were included in the exhibit.

I agree with the above. I just joined the group. My collage would be the color of red clay, blue skies, sandwiched clouds, and many, many faces looking back at me. Some of us don't look at each other eye to eye out of guilt, shame or avoidance. Wh...

A Personal Journey of Years (Part 3)

The idea that our (Aberjhani’s and mine) work fit together like puzzle pieces was accurate and marvelous. In one way, however, it was incomplete because the work the two of us have done is only part of something much larger. The greater puzzle of universal wisdom a… Continue

Dear Luther,

I was just thrilled yesterday when my prize package arrived. My small country post office was closed for business yesterday for the holiday, but the lobby remains open on these holidays so us country folks can retrieve our mail at any time. Something yesterday told me to take that drive a quarter of a mile to the country post office because there was something awaiting my attention...YES! When I opened my post office box, there was a key inside. That key is used for bigger boxes in which the post mistress puts larger parcels in. I opened up the box, and there it was, the manilla envelope from Creative Thinkers International from Savannah, Georgia! Happy Thanksgiving it was! I am thankful and honored to have been sent your and Aberjhani's ELEMENTAL The Power of Illuminated Love. The cover is so golden...beautiful with colors of your brilliant works, Luther. In between the covers I was mezmerized by the power of creativity of two men, Luther E. Vann and Aberjhani. I want to take time to slowly absorb your paintings, Mr. Vann, and Aberjhani's accompanying poems. I would like to draw the both of your attention to page 111 - The Homeless: Psalm 85:10. Ironically, this has great meaning to my poem The Brand which Aberjhani has read on AD. This poem is about a homeless man with a peg wooden leg. It is a true story about a man I knew in my early girlhood and through this poem I wanted to convey that not all that much has changed in the ways of racism, bigotry, and homophobia. One thing that I did not mention in that poem, and to Aberjhani, is that this hobo man with the wooden leg was a black man. Yes, he was. This is why I mentioned Aberjhani's poem The Day the Word Nigger First Entered My Life in the same instance. So then when I read these lines from Aberjhani's poem The Homeless: Psalm 85:10 - " Later that night, the wealthy man was dreaming about angels when he felt someone cut off both his feet." I think about peg leg with the wooden leg and the cruelty of the people who are not only homeless, but handicapped. And when I read a little further down about this poem and your image titled The Homeless: Psalm 85:10 where it says "can evoke multiple levels of response," yes, indeed it does, One thing that I notice in your wonderful and detailed paintings, Luther, is that you have several paintings in which you have incorporated a bicycle with prominent wheels and also the female breast. This says so much to me, as a creative artist myself that the wheel of life keeps spinning for us to pass on to future generations and the breast is the nourishment in which allows us growth in our relationships with family, friends, peers, and the global world. Thank you Luther and Aberjhani.

Warmly,
Sage

Thank you so much for the invite Luther. I'm honored to meet such interesting folks here on this site. I love your collection of art. It is very unique and organic in its movement.

I studied art in New York many years ago and still enjoy watercolors. Your work reminds me of the Impressionists, like Van Gogh or Monet.

Very beautiful and poetic. You have a lot here to see so I'll be back often and I hope to learn more about you and your work.

Godspeed my friend. I bid you peace.
