A short poem addressing why I wear Black...
Inspired to write this poem by Johnny Cash
First Published: August 2008.
I wear Black as a shield so I won't leak,
The secrets and confidences I've been entrusted to keep.
I wear Black; its the armour that keeps me strong.
I wear Black to remind me that sometimes I'm wrong.
I wear Black for the poor and the beaten down, living in hopelessness on the hungry side of town.
I wear Black for the victims of our times, who blinded by pain become victims of crime.
I wear Black for those who have never read or listened to the Words God said.
I wear Black for those without a friend, and who know no mercy or justice to their end.
I wear Black for the sick and the lonely,
I wear Black for the lost and alone,
I wear Black for those with no home.
I wear Black in mourning for the wasted lives that could have been, all the things they should have done and seen.
I wear Black for the millions who have died because men with power were greedy and lied.
