Michael, Farrah and Ed McMahon, All Stars

Growing up with Michael, Farrah & EdMcMahon

6/28/2009 9:25:00 AM

by Joyce White

Artists spend so much time creating their art, they forget to work on their personal lives. I, myself, try to live my life in between drafts.

Michael Jackson lived with a child's heart. Listen to his… Continue

Did you know?

Did you know?

Did you know...

that I love you,

in a way that defies all convention,

that goes beyond the cessation of all sensation,

going beyond,

towards a new creation,

that is the definition of this thing between you and me

...that speaks to me in a way that I have never known,

that speaks to me in a way that allows for a newfound language,

that parodoxically… Continue

No more than a centimeter

I moved no closer,

than a centimeter to her love that day,

that day that held me in its sway,

held me in the sway of loves mysterious ways,

and we kissed the day away,

as I moved not half a centimeter away,

from where she lay.

I moved no closer,

than a centimeter to her lips,

and our passions covered the fractional distance,

that was still between our mouths,

and our hands moved in fractions of… Continue

A matter of centimeters

Our love has become a matter of centimeters,

a matter of our mannerisms,

that counter the cynics that pass on by,

that say that love lies thousands of touches away.

Our love has become a matter of centimeters,

as the distance starts to close,

as even the breath we breathe becomes a shared and common gift,

the gift of life circulating through the centimeters between our faces,

the less than centimeter urgency of…

Maybe We Still Are the World

So many reasons this classic "We are the World" video is one of the most amazing things musicians have ever done. With words and music by Michael Jackson and Lionel Ritchie, the video features some of the greatest talents in the history of American music. I couldn't count or catch them all but this list is the one's I could:

Ray Charles

Bob Dylan

Michael Jackson

Al Jarreau

Quincy Jones

Cydney Lauper

Huey… Continue

My Cryptic Darkness

I want to die by a tree in the darkness; the night time can cover the ash in my eyes

I want to die while the moon’s still in harvest; or can the old man make it a surprise

As long as I’m greeted empty with freedom; with no scars to scare the angels away

Sometimes I’m in hiding my mind doesn’t need her; gagging the heart and stopping the fray

The whispers are louder when my thoughts are hazy

The taunts and the laughter, when they say I’m crazy

But what… Continue

To Walk a Lifetime in Michael Jackson's Moccasins

Michael Jackson in concert around 1995. (photographer unknown)

You probably can’t read the words in the note next to the accompanying photo of Michael Jackson, but they were handwritten by the singer himself during the mid 1990s when he was constantly on tour and just as constantly a subject of much public ridicule and condemnation. This note was composed on hotel stationery and, complete with original spellings,… Continue

The Poetic Synergy of Shared Creativity

"Broughton Street a.k.a. BeBop Street" by 2009 King-Tisdell Fine Arts Award winner Luther E. Vann (from ELEMENTAL, The Power of Illuminated Love).

For the past almost two decades, I have found myself frequently inspired by the work of artist Luther E. Vann, so much so that essays and poetry derived from meditations on his metaphysical paintings and sculpture eventually helped produce the book… Continue

Part 1 (A Juneteenth Special): Remembrance and Healing in America

The following is presented in honor of Juneteenth, the traditional commemoration of the celebration that dates back to June19, 1865, when African-American slaves in Galveston, Texas, learned for the first time about the Emancipation Proclamation that had been issued to free them two years earlier. They decided that was a very good reason for a party and generations have kept it going every year… Continue

From it we come back to it we go

Mother Earth, from it we are moulded from it we are made

we are the sum of all its energy

all that the earth is made of

so is man we are in truth

mostly of water the source

of all life

why then do we

abuse it so without it

we are lost

without the ground to walk on

we disapate into the billion

seperate atoms we are made from

since we first lit the first

fire we… Continue
