Canopy of stars

That canopy of stars,

under which I fell for you,

like that shower of falling stars,

vesper trails whispering in your whisps of hair,

firery red hair that is red like mars ascending,

mane of hair beyond compare.

That canopy of stars,

where we lit up like those constellations,

new born under a newly darkened sky,

that sky… Continue

Why I Cried When Barack Obama Received the 2008 Democratic Presidential Nomination

(Author and civil rights activist James Baldwin in Paris)

The writer Victor Sejour, who counted the great French author Alexandre Dumas among his associates, was still a teenager when he left his family in New Orleans, Louisiana, and headed for Paris, France, around 1836. Although a free young man, he was also a black one who believed it would be impossible for him to live an authentic literary life in a country where those who… Continue

Anthem of poetry

Poetry is a love of verse,

love of words,

love of a phrase,

that uplifts,

or chills the heart.

Poetry is a love of turn of phrase,

in which one is fazed,

but the intense daze,

of that which is recited in rhyming words,

or in powerful blank turns,

in which the soul is uplifted or burns.

Poetry is love of the word,

brought to life by breath of the poet,

in that immortal sonnet,

that chilling soliloqy,

that… Continue

Bless me

Bless me,

with the sweet spices of your sultry,

with the sifting sands of your sensuality.

Bless me,

with that heart of yours,

so utterly free,

with wings of a dove,

that make me feel divnity.

Bless me with the lightness of your love,

power of the heavens above,

that vast expanse of sky,

that sets my soul so free.

Bless me with you simply being you,

that lets me be a better me,

bless me by being in my… Continue

If I must die

If I must die,

let it be to the arms of you.

If I must die,

let it be to the heart of you.

If I must die,

if I must take that last breath,

let it be shared breath,

with the air of your love,

that love that took me above.

If I must receed,

If I must plead for one more moment to live,

let it be in the blessed presence of you,

that made me so strong,

grace and faith,

love and strength,

simply by the grace… Continue

Silent Sonata

That silent sonata

that said it in silence,

in a whisper,

the words I yearned to hear,

that you hold me to your heart,

that you hold me dear.

That distant dissonance,

that does not dissapear,

with the silence of our yearnings,

the silent heavy breathings,

of what we wish for,

every day and every year,

for our love to be subsumed

in that silent… Continue

I felt the song

I felt the song,

of that flute drifted in the prolong,

of both my agonies and joys,

that life takes away and avails.

I felt the song,

when it passed me by,

in the sacred winds,

of the forest of my own explorations I was drawn in,

by the internal cosmograrphy of my own souls spy.

I felt that song,

and learned to grasp it,

not as a clinging thing,

but to grasp it,

as a… Continue

I am honored to be here tonight to support Barack Obama. And to warm up the

crowd for Joe Biden, though as you’ll soon see, he doesn’t need any help from

me. I love Joe Biden, and America will too.

What a year we Democrats have had. The primary began with an all-star line up

and came down to two remarkable… Continue

I am one

I am one,

with the divinity,

the mandate of heavens,

that decress,

that I am part of you,

that you are part of me,

whether you are my disparate enemy,

my friend,

or the lover that has decided to flee,

for fear of loving me.

I am one,

with the universe that created me,

that shall take me back,

to the essence of itself,

with this universe I am one.

I am one with… Continue

I also am

I also am

...a being who overcame his weaknesses,

insecure with new confidences infused,

I am also a being honest with my own truths,

of what I am, in charity and love.

I am man entire,

forged by what was a fragile life before,

to something stronger.

I too was bruised in my own way,

could have been made bitter,

but I aspire to be all hearts desire,

to be free with love and kindnesses prosperity.

I am the… Continue

If you tripped me

If you tripped me,
would I fall to the ground,
or would I fall in to a place of grace,
some sacred space,
occupied by the essence of you?

If you tripped me,
and I fell,
woul I be fallen to a torrid daze,
or soem sweet scintillations spell?

If you trip me,
let me fall,
but into the arms of you,
taht speaks so true,
to the essence of hearts,
that has become the truth of me and you.

When does it burn no more?

When does a burning recede of hello,

become a cool goodbye?

When does the departing of my hand,

become the breaking of a circle,

like of wedding bands?

I do not know.

...but I know,

that when you receede,

from my soul of need,

I come to beg and plead,

for the stop of that recede,

that makes my heart bleed,

makes the heart yearn,

for cessation of such need,

to have to get and plead,

for the sweetness of… Continue

Those hands that ran

My hands that ran,

like a carousel around your soul,

like a twirling and whirling,

seeking and beseeching,

for the outreach of your hand,

to reach out and clasp mine.

My hands that sprialed with centrifuge,

spinning to the center,

single space where I enter,

the space where your hands meet mine.

My hands that twirled,

those hands those whirled,

to the center of loves… Continue

Wars fragile sky

That sky of war,

so fragile under the rains of incendiaries,

tears in sunderance,

as missles and bullets fly by.

That sky of war,

so torn and scarred,

by the passage of shell,

impacting on sacred earth,

torn ground kicks up,

in mouring,

to that now torn crying sky.

That sky of war,

filled with such a wretched din,

full of sound of sin,

the rape of a… Continue

Nations of war

These nations of war,

that rape their daughter of innocence in that declaration,

of bombs and incendiary malice,

to their neighbor,

brother of our shared land.

These nations of war,

that sacrifice their single son to love,

that proceed to kill loves dove,

so that they may worship false vices,

instead of the divine inside and above.

These nations,

of demanding… Continue

Gravity of her eyes

The gravity of her eyes,

drawing me in,

to swell toxic,

sweet erotic,

of her iris' excise.

The gravity of her eyes,

gravity swirls of galaxies,

pulls me in to skies abides,

dark skies of nebulae,

numbing in narcissis of focund fornication,

gravity of swell of sweet enebreation.

The gravity of her eyes,

look past my own despise,

to the mounting surmise,

of my souls… Continue
