                                                       (UNESCO International Jazz Day poster)

Talk about jazz clubs, jazz concerts, or jazz festivals and Istanbul, Turkey, is not the first city that comes to most people’s minds.  Most (on the continental U.S. at…

Innocence Quenched

“Innocence Quenched”

Dawn is here, a new day is beginning...

Excitement paused and ready to burst;

As runners prepare with anticipation,

Bystanders find their spots, enthusiastically!

A young boy with brother, and mother,

Full of dreams, and a splendid future

Leaves his home as a proud spectator...

Birds sing, sun is shy and dog barks…

Poems Everywhere Day: Eating Poetry by Mark Strand (poem with video)

Today could very well be called Poems Everywhere Day since poems are popping up on lunch bags, billboards, in emails, slipped into purses, and yes, tucked into pockets. Carrying only one seemed  insufficient to me so I chose two favorites. This is the first one:…

Poem: Armor of God

Clothe yourself in the full armor of God

and be able to withstand the Devil’s schemes;

know that he’s only the father of lies,

looking to destroy your earthly dreams.

Cover yourself with Christ’s Breastplate

of Righteousness and protect your torn heart;

your essence has been purchased for His Kingdom,

meaning that you’re meant… to be set apart.

Gird your waist with the Belt of Truth

and stand firm with integrity and…

The One Eye!

The Red street light looks only at a dirty night girl,

Peeping on her  beauty; lipsticks; colored eye brows.

The cafeteria opens; decorates early mornings,

exhibiting yesterday’s eatables; bread and jam,

in front of the hungry child, begging for it’s half.

The Street water-pipe bursts to see a dried up,

throat slaking thirst, unable to capture a single…

Poem: Come, See This Man

It started out, as an ordinary day,

with a daily trip… to the local well;

without much expectation, I met a Man

from a small town, located in Israel.

Come, see this Man…

Well, I must admit, He was the first

to observe me as a Child of Abraham;

knocking down my personal defenses

was Christ, the Son of the Great I Am.

Come, see this Man…

He spoke with both grace and intimacy,

and soon I was fully…

A feel, yielding so much warm;

A soft voice, full of charm;

A breath of lovable commit;

A wreath of lustful submit.

No promise of uncertain;

No lies being told at night;

No looks…
