Angel of Earth Days and Seasons

A soft dream of green

colors starlit intentions

with sincerity.

In your hands winter

is a book with cloud pages

that snow pearls of love.

Your flight shines classic––

composed of symphonic nights

and honey-hued days.

Inside your laughter

spring’s kiss animates the beat

of summer’s warm song.

In your hair oceans

leap with sky-blue abandon

Field Notes from the 2009 Book Festival Trenches (Part 1 of 3)

Only two days before last weekend’s Savannah Book Festival (Feb 6-8, 2009) morning temperatures in the city were hitting the low freeze-your-butt-off 20s. Then as if by magical literary decree, just as the weekend arrived they soared into the sublime 70s and provided authors, readers, and bookaholic collectors from all over the United States with brilliantly sunny spring-like weather.

In the Company of Banksy, Proust, and It Looks Like Me

(Urban wall art by the brilliant and elusive British artist known as Banksy)

One of my favorite thirty-second pastimes is to click on major websites for books and find out which titles customers are purchasing in addition to a specific book of my own. I was particularly curious about what the results might be in regard to ELEMENTAL The… Continue

From The American Poet Who Went Home Again

In my life as a poet, change meant employing my pen to acknowledge the deaths and lives of people I had loved for as long as I could remember but who suddenly were gone. I noticed for the first time how closely the word… Continue

A Personal Journey of Years (Part 3)

The idea that our (Aberjhani’s and mine) work fit together like puzzle pieces was accurate and marvelous. In one way, however, it was incomplete because the work the two of us have done is only part of something much larger. The greater puzzle of universal wisdom and beauty that we have strived to honor through our work includes the profound legacies of world artistic and spiritual traditions, the innate integrity of human communities… Continue

An Evening Out in Savannah

I’ve been honored to have one of my paintings, entitled “With These Hands,” included in the Telfair Museum of Art’s collection for several years now. But on April 16, the museum will host an exhibition of my work that will run until August 17, 2008. If you’re not in Savannah when the show opens, I hope you’ll make it to the city and catch it before the summer ends. It’s a special event to be shared with as many people as… Continue
