A Retrospect in Death Now Available
At the beginning of this visionary tale, the unnamed protagonist has just died. By the time the reader is inexorably drawn to the conclusion of A Retrospect in Death, the only uncovered fact about the narrator, who could be any man or every man, is his name. Reviewing his life with his higher self - his connection…

Eking One Out
“E-K-E?”
“Eke.”
“What is that?”
“Are you challenging?”
“Believe it.”
Greg reached for the SCRABBLE Players Dictionary and began flipping its pages. He’d played this game against his old nemesis, Barry, plotting his strategy carefully. Playing his last tile a few minutes ago, Greg held a slim lead—347-341. The nearly three-and-a-half-hour epic battle had gone nearly the way he’d planned it. Barry had darted out to a quick early…

The Good Old Days of Whose Youth?
November 29 marks the anniversary of the death of former Beatle, George Harrison. Has it really been ten years already? A tribute concert was performed, recorded and released on CD in 2003. A Concert for George featured many of George’s oldest and best friends: Jeff Lynne, Gary Brooker, Joe Brown, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton and the two remaining Beatles, Paul McCartney…

The Lost Apology
Below appears a flash piece I wrote given a prompt: the first three words ...
“I’m sorry, but—”
“No, you’re not sorry,” he said into the phone.
“But—”
“There you go again, trying to justify your decision—the choice you made. Erich Segal got it wrong—all wrong. Being in love means forever having to say you’re sorry. Putting the needs of your family ahead of your own. But an apology with an explanation is really no apology at all, is…

500 Miles
500 Miles is my new work in progress.
My dad took me to my first Indy 500 in 1966, the year Graham Hill won and I’ve been hooked ever since. The 1960s are considered the golden era of motorsports. At that time Indy had a pure formula and innovation was encouraged—unlike today, where, to keep costs down, the cars pretty much come out of a box.
Today the sport has become all about technology—wind tunnels, engineers, two-way communication with the drivers and pit lane…

One Hot January Now Available
Joe January’s story is anything but just a story, despite spanning two centuries. The denouement is less than happily ever after, and January at times comes across as a sort of comic book superhero. But in youth we often view ourselves as invincible, only later seeing the global repercussions of our actions. Yet given the chance to live life over again, how many would turn their back? Hence the meat of January’s story is largely about regret: how, through his own foolishness, he lost…
