Some are feasting as they have been for years on continuous disclosures about aspects of his life (and now death) considered unconventional and… Continue

The Nujazz New Millennium Soul of Maxwell's BLACKsummers'night

After an eight-year hiatus from his professional life as a high-profile musical artist, and with the recent release of his much anticipated BLACKsummers’night CD, the first in a trilogy, it’s no major surprise that singer Maxwell enjoyed a sell-out performance at the Savannah Civic Center’s Johnny Mercer Theatre July 28, 2009.

The singer posted on his Twitter page two words to describe the performance and the… Continue

To Render a Worthwhile Service

The notion of rendering service these days is one that most of us generally associate with business enterprises that promise lucrative monetary rewards, or influential political power in exchange for whatever service one might render. Unless affiliated with a religious institution of some kind, it’s rare that we consider service in the manner indicated when the great scholar and humanitarian W.E.B. Du Bois wrote the following: “In… Continue

(Jepson Center for the Arts seen through tree branches. Photo courtesy of Flickr.com)

The primary objective of a book signing might be to sell books but one of the great priceless perks of such events is the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Where in the World is Bob Dylan in this Movie?

(Rock icon Bob Dylan hanging out with poet icon Allen Ginsberg in "I'm Not There")

The title of I’M NOT THERE comes from a Bob Dylan song of the same name. In the song, the iconic singer/songwriter/actor/activist seems to lament the ups and downs of his relationship with a woman described as “my prize-forsaken angel,” and “a long-hearted mystic.” Where Todd Haynes’ and co-screenwriter Oren Moverman’s ultra-brilliant movie is concerned,…
