End of Illusion (For Barry)

END OF ILLUSION (For Barry) by Sara L. Russell (Pinky Andrexa) How lovely was illusion when it used to wear his face; like some magical collusion between mystery and grace. Spun from lightning, stars and thunder, luminescent as moonlight, with dark eyes wide with wonder and hair as black as night. How lovely was desire when it used to sigh his name; forged out of passion's fire, too mischievous for shame. He's a hero for our dreams to entice us out to play; how untouchable he seems ti… Continue

Picturesque (Sonnet & Painting)

Picturesque by Sara L. Russell (aka Pinky Andrexa) I'll paint you in the colours of a day Rose-madder sunrise, amber, burnished gold; For nature has no solid black or grey And colour lets her miracles unfold. Adored by light, touched by ecstatic air And on the canvas lend your warming grace; All subtle shades of skin and tousled hair, So beautiful in body, soul and face. I'll paint you in the velvet tones of night, Emerging from the shadows of a dream; Temptation's muse, whose eyes… Continue

Seeking African actress / poetess to play the role of Queen Makeda...

Hi Everyone at Creative Thinkers International, I am trying to find an African or Ethiopian woman to help me make a video recital for an excerpt of my poem "The Song of Makeda" to web cam. Queen Makeda, Queen of Sheba was Ethiopian. She would have worn a white gown with fancy gold necklaces (chains, beads and coins) and a white headdress framing her hair. Her hair would be in long ringlets or braided, with gold beads. Her accent would be Ethiopian or African. If any such actress or poet feels… Continue

The Killing of Anne Boleyn

The Killing of Anne Boleyn © Sara L. Russell, 29th March 2003 Alas, ambitious girl, foregone of France, Thy days are numbered now, through loss of power. Though once thou led the king a merry dance, His gaze will wander from a faded flower. Women are cattle in the eyes of men, Mere chattels; drear, embattled, scapegoat souls; How utterly unthinkable, Boleyn, For queens to rise above domestic goals. Thy barren womb is witness to thy shame, Its emptiness brings punishment anew; Th… Continue

A Vampyre Love Poem...

Vampyre Love Poem By Sara L. Russell, 18:10, 14/2/09 (first posted on Vampirefreaks.com, 14/2/09) Oh come my beautiful and darkly-shining, Release me from the thirst of love's desire; Half hidden now, the cloud-veiled moon is rising To shine when we are joined in passion's fire. The moonlight ripples out across the water, All's quiet beneath the star-bejewelled sky, As shadow lord embraces twilight's daughter, Speaking her name out of a trembling sigh. I hear the denizens of midnight… Continue

Pandora Opens The Box

Pandora Opens The Box by Sara L. Russell November 08, 2003 Pandora slipped her hands onto the lid Merely intending one clandestine peep, And as she lifted, monsters of the id Slowly began arising from their sleep. Cruelty flew out over less wakeful beasts, Heedless of tortured screams rising from Hell; Diseases followed, with unholy priests And lowly demons, sprung from Satan's well. They came with noisy, flapping leathern wings, With coils of questing tendr… Continue

A Vampire Tale (In 4 Sonnets)

A Vampire Tale (In 4 sonnets) by Sara L. Russell, 2/6/03 I A vampire's spun of dust and frailty, Condemned to shun the healing light of day; No innocent first kiss for such as he, No cross to keep his own demons away. He's poised in shadow, by the lady's bed, Fixated by her flawless, youthful skin, Her fragile throat beneath her dreaming head, Translucent, showing pale blue veins within. "And will I lift the curtain of thy hair, And on thy pale white bosom,… Continue

Maestro (Poem) by Sara L. Russell

Maestro Sara L. Russell 21:01, 02/02/2006 Andante he plays, with a bittersweet air, With his pale features drawn in ethereal joy, With sunlight from her window to halo his hair; He's a favourite musician within her employ. "Mareschal, Mareschal, lay down your bow, Lay your instrument down in its casket of teak, For your lips hold the melody mine thirst to know And your delicate bowmanship renders me weak." Monsieur Mareschal smiles, continues his tune Though the lady's entreatie… Continue

Kissonnet

Kissonnett Sara L. Russell, 01:12 25/09/2008 Come gentle lover, let me share your air and taste the kisses only your lips bring, Speaking in tongues, my hands lost in your hair, with every nerve alive and shivering. Manna of angels, honeyed on the lips rains down on me, leaving me mesmerised; bestowed only in tantalyzing sips, till every fantasy is realized. The sullen low, the upper Cupid's bow, the pout so often teased into a smile; By far the sweetest mouth I'll ever know - i… Continue

Astrologorama by Sara L. Russell (incl. video)

From "The Meaning" - part 13 ASTROLOGORAMA In the dark loam of the night where the hand of fate has sown the stars good and evil, black and white are stirred in heaven's scrying glass The sun, the messenger Mercury the moon, the glow of Saturn's rings bestow or steal so randomly pulling at mortal puppet strings For we are all as thistledown blown and thrown at fortune's will how often has man looked up, to frown on midnight stars, so bright and still? Reclaim the Sky (for Elisabeth Fritzl)

RECLAIM THE SKY (for Elisabeth Fritzl) Sara L. Russell, May 11th, 2008 Reclaim the sky, the shape of every cloud, The gradient of sunsets, red to gold; Release the thoughts you dared not say aloud, Relinquish fears too terrible to hold. If we could buy a mansion by the sea With miles of free horizon in full view, Where comorants, like girls' daydreams, fly free, Elisabeth, we'd give it all to you. You ran away, he dragged you back again - All those who kne… Continue

The Song of Makeda

The Song of Makeda

(Makeda, the Queen of Sheba’s reply to The Song of Solomon) by Sara L. Russell (Draft #5) 26/03/08, 00:58 Ch. 1. 1. Behold, thou art dark and comely, my love; richly hath the sun favoured thee, delighting in thy presence. Let me savour thy kisses of wine; for in the gardens of the temple the lotus furls open, wild bees fall asleep on her face. 2. Lilies and jasmine bloom in the garden of my love; fall… Continue

The Singing Cat (Sonnet)

The Singing Cat For Daniel & Bella, by Sara L. Russell Come Daniel, let me hear you once again Play poignant arias on your guitar; I'll lend my diva voice to lovelorn pain To touch even the coldest distant star. Golden chimeras of forgotten days, The winged sphinx deities we cats hold dear Will always turn their heads when Daniel plays And prick up their bejewelled ears to hear. Oh let me vocalize a sweet refrain, A morning madrigal or midnight dirge; And if you pause, I'll… Continue

Big Fluffy / Silly Valentine Sonnet...

Sonnet for Big Fluffy
By Sara L. Russell (Feb 14, 2004)

Big Fluffy, be my Valentine tonight,
Before the Roquefort moon melts all away,
Before the winking stars fade out of sight
I'll love you in a Big and Fluffy way.
The bunnies dance a polka on the grass,
The nightingales sing flirty serenades.
The mice sing rugby songs, as bold as brass,
It's time to shimmy in long boo

A Child-Mind's Eye

A Child-Mind's Eye
by Sara L. Russell

(from a conversation heard at the leisure centre)

We've got a house inside our rocket ship,
A garden full of stars;
Would you care to come and take a trip
To see the sights on mars?

You cannot park that here, my dear -
On a double yellow line.
You'll have to make it disappear
Or get a parking fine.

I'd love to mak

"Me" Time

"Me" Time

A sonnet by Sara L. Russell, 21/11/07

The transcendental rivers of the mind
Through tributary streams of aimlessness
Transport us to the haven of mankind:
The Sea of Universal Consciousness.

Unfocused as life's purpose often seems,
Between order and chaos, earth and sky,
That ocean's siren song plays in our dreams
And we may hear it, if we only try.

So let the silent waters carry me
