Embracing the world with positive creativity since Sept 2007.
The black art community has that small town feel. The good thing is that it is a place where, for the most part, everyone knows their neighbor. Most of us do a number of the same shows and even have a lot of the same collectors. It's like a family reunion of sorts with its own hierarchy. While I was visiting the Joy Smith Gallery in Memphis, TN several years ago I was introduced to an artist by the name of Frank Frazier. I knew very little about him at that time. However, he has become such a major role model.
Frank Frazier has introduced artists to his collectors; invited them to his private art shows; and reached out when times were tough. It is because of Frank that I will be one of the featured artists on the Tom Joyner Cruise. Frank has helped so many artists and he continues to be selfless in working with and promoting others (especially the younger artists).
I see "Black Art In America" as an extension of Frank Frazier's legacy. God Bless the Frank Frazier's of the world.
