First, I'm inspired to read your statements about what I call the incubation period for your novels. A full decade or two makes a very powerful self-editing tool. I'm prompted now to revisit my own approach to a couple of ideas I had discarded, but now feel it might be worthwhile to simply do some overhauling and see what happens.
Secondly: Thank you for picking up a copy of The River of Winged Dreams and the positive comments regarding it. One day I will know exactly how to talk or write about that particular book but the experience of composing it was so flooded with spiritual, emotional, and creative intensity that it sometimes left me drained and stunned and not at all certain that I was the one doing the writing. So please don't envy me. I promise you that it kicked my butt on 2 or 3 different levels :-)

Comment by J. Conrad Guest on April 2, 2012 at 7:24pm I can appreciate that, Aberjhani, your feeling of reading another's work. It's been twenty years since I wrote my first novel, and I rewrote it ten years later; but since it's been published, I haven't had the desire to give it another look. I feel that way about all my novels. Truly, by the time they post for purchase, I've gone over them, cover to cover, maybe twenty times. I'm ready to let go. If I were to read my first novel now, I'd see ways to improve it and likely would wish to rewrite it again. But would be the point? That's where I was in my life, and it should remain as it is, a marker from where I came.
By the way, I picked up The River of Winged Dreams recently. I haven't yet started it; I'm reading Terri Kirby Erickson's In the Palms of Angels, as well as a novel and just recently started a new novel of my own; but I promise you a review. I honestly don't read a lot of poetry, because so much of it today seems so abstract, but I so admire your work. And I must confess, too, that I envy you your ability to make it look effortless. You certainly deserve all the success that comes your way.
Comment by Author-Poet Aberjhani on March 11, 2012 at 8:09pm Thank you J. The Songs of the Angelic Gaze series of poems came to me during a simultaneously deeply spiritual and higly creative time in my life. Sometimes when reading back over them I actually feel like I'm reading another author's work.
