It’s embarrassing to share an early poem, but I’d like to share it anyway. This poem was like a suicide note, I wrote it shortly before I left my vocation to the priesthood in 1992. The imageries in this poem happened in real life. How my mother, for instance, grieved over the death of my youngest brother, and how I grieved over their tragic and untimely deaths (all my family members) respectively back home in Mindanao. Instead of being angry or bitter about life, I transformed my despair and sorrow into forms and colors on my canvas (and other aesthetic mediums). Tragedy compels me to create art!
